Maria Carmela Martens, MSW, CPC, MISD

Trainer and Consultant

Maria Carmela Martens is a trainer and consultant at the Training and Education Center. Her interest lies in strengthening and empowering the workforce of unrepresented individuals in public and non-profit sectors. Maria holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan, with an emphasis in communities and social systems. While at Michigan, Maria began working in the HIV/AIDS community, providing therapy, facilitating groups and providing HIV Test Counseling in the community, which eventually led to her tenure in providing training and development to AIDS Service Organizations around the United States.

Prior to joining Alameda County, Maria worked at a non-profit managing a national HIV/AIDS capacity building program. In her role she managed project planning and implementation and oversaw monitoring and evaluation of all training and capacity building engagements.

Maria received her coaching certification through Leadership that Works, a certified program that integrates cultural awareness and social change into the coaching curriculum. She is an ATD Master Instructional Designer, and holds certificates in Human Performance Improvement, E-Learning Instructional Design and Strategic Leadership, all from the Association for Talent Development.

Maria is a natural connector and relationship builder. She is compassionate, organized and supportively cultivates potential in others. When Maria is not at work you can find her in a CrossFit Box working out, traveling the world or looking for hot and new restaurants according to Yelp.
