Coaching supports individuals to reflect on what might be in the way of achieving desired outcomes and on strategies, actions, and progress beyond what they may be able to identify on their own. Coaching enhances personal and professional capacity and performance to be more aligned with the needs, goals and ever-shifting priorities of teams and organizations. This two half-day training provides fundamental coaching principles, skills, and opportunities to practice. The goal is to build a foundation for coaching others, applying a coaching approach, and ongoing development and growth as a coach.

Managing within Disability Laws & Leaves

There have been significant changes in disability related employment law over the past several years. Specifically, because more types of employee absences are protected by the recently amended Family Medical Leave Act, more employees are covered. Understanding and managing these laws and leaves is critical. ALCO Making the Transition from Staff to Manager (Virtual Instructor Led)

Transitioning from staff to manager requires a shift in mindset and skillset.                    Some key skills you’ll need to develop to be successful in your new role:

1- Leadership: As a manager, you’ll need to be able to inspire, motivate, and guide your team. This means developing strong leadership skills, including setting a vision, communicating it clearly and leading by example.
2- Communication: Effective communication is crucial for managers. You’ll need to be able
to communicate clearly, listen actively, and provide feedback to your team members.
3- Building and leading a high-performance team aligned with your vision and goals and able to execute and deliver outcomes autonomously.
4- Delegation: As a manager, you must delegate tasks and responsibilities to your team
members. This means understanding their strengths and weaknesses, assigning appropriate tasks for their skill level, and providing clear instructions and expectations.
5- Time management: You’ll be responsible for multiple tasks and projects as a manager. This means developing strong time management skills, prioritizing tasks, managing your schedule, and meeting deadlines.
6- Problem-solving: Managers are often called upon to solve complex problems. This means developing strong problem-solving skills, including analyzing data, identifying root
causes, and developing practical solutions.
7- Emotional intelligence: Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions and those of others. As a manager, you’ll need to develop strong
emotional intelligence to manage your team and build strong relationships with
stakeholders effectively.
8- Strategic thinking: As a manager, you’ll need to be able to think strategically and develop plans to achieve your organization’s goals. This means understanding the big picture, analyzing data and developing actionable strategies.

ALCO Microsoft Excel Fundamentals

In this course, participants will focus on the basics of creating professional looking Microsoft Excel Documents. Create/Edit/Save worksheets, perform calculations, use basic formulas, modify worksheets, search/replace data, insert and delete rows and columns, format worksheets, use text and number formats, styles and conditional formats, and print and manage workbooks.

In this advanced level, interactive and hands-on Excel Course students will learn and practice working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, use lookup functions and formula auditing, share and protect workbooks, automate workbook functionality, create sparklines and map data and forecast datalearn.

ALCO Project Management Fundamentals Overview

The training will provide a thorough understanding of the major project management concepts and activities essential for successful project completion.

Some core concepts that will be covered in this training include:
1- Getting Started with Project Management: Define the basics of project management. This will
include identifying in general, the characteristics of a project, the project life cycle, and the
role of the project manager in charge of the project planning and execution.
2- Project scope: The scope defines the project’s boundaries and objectives, including what is
included and excluded. It helps to ensure that everyone involved in the project clearly
understands what needs to be achieved. This step is crucial and involves negotiations between
stakeholders, risk contingencies, incentives, clarity of the problem being addressed or value
being created, and their impact on the rest of the organization.
3- Project planning: Project planning involves breaking down the project into smaller tasks,
estimating the time and resources required for each task, and developing a timeline for
completion. It also involves identifying potential risks and developing contingency plans to
mitigate them.

The Basic Procurement course is for Alameda County staff who are new to procurement. Staff will receive an overview of Alameda County procurement policies, procedures and process.
This is a four hour class is designed for staff with limited procurement experience.
