Gender Neutral Pronouns for Customer Service

jonathan rodriguezNews

Gender Neutral pronouns are words that have a focus on inclusivity. The idea is that you can refer to people without assuming their gender. An easy way to transition into the use of gender neutral pronouns is to use “they” or “them” instead of pronouns which connote a specific gender.

Examples:

  • Yes, she talked to me about it today.
  • Yes, they talked to me about it today.
  • I can have it ready for him when he arrives.
  • I can have it ready for them when they arrive.

This way, you can stray away from using words like “him, her, he or she” since these words exclude people who do not identify as either. By auditing your conversations with the public, you can become self-aware of the pronouns you use and tailor your language towards inclusivity.
